Ruby Room Celebrates 20 Years in Wicker Park

Ruby Room Shop & Spa is twenty years old. Founded in 2002 in the heart of Chicago’s Wicker Park, the studio has spent two decades doing something the city had no name for when we opened: putting massage, skincare, intuitive readings, and energy healing under one roof, and treating them as one practice rather than four.

The Shop

Downstairs is a curated collection of tools for developing your own style of wellness at home and between sessions.

“We have our own line of 14 flower and gem essences, detox salts, intention candles, crystals galore, sage, incense, healing jewelry, card decks, oils, healing potions, lotions, skincare, and more. We have new exciting goodies coming in each week,” says founder Kate Leydon.

Ruby Room products have been carried by Whole Foods, Plum Market, Four Seasons, and Ritz-Carlton, and are used daily by makeup artists, hairstylists, therapists, and creatives around the world.

Twenty Years of Recognition

Chicago Magazine, National Geographic Traveler, Modern Luxury, and Time Out have all placed Ruby Room in the top tier of Chicago spas. CNN called it North America’s first all-spiritual spa. The studio has also been featured on E! and Style Network, and in Vogue, InStyle, Allure, and Marie Claire.

Classes and New Readings

The anniversary also marked an expansion of the teaching side of Ruby Room: a series of third eye development and energy wellness classes, including weekly Chakra Sound Meditation, Awaken Your Intuition, Cultivating Your Spiritual Practice, and Illuminate Your Chakras.

“Our classes focus on taking our clients deeper into their intuitive skill set by playing with different energy expansion exercises and energy healing modalities,” says Leydon.

The reading menu grew alongside them — angel, oracle, tarot, Akashic Records, cowry, clairvoyant, and mediumship readings — as did the energy healing menu, which spans reiki, shamanic work, chakra balancing, and astral body healing.

How Ruby Room Works

“Our style is more like intuitive coaching. As information comes up, we share it and discuss ways to move through pain, trauma, conflict, confusion, and negative thought patterns. We share ways our clients can shift their energy by shifting their limiting beliefs about what is possible in their lives,” says Leydon.

That approach rests on the team. “Everyone on our team is incredibly passionate about helping our clients navigate their healing process.”

A Multi-Generational Following

Twenty years in one neighbourhood produces something unusual: clients who first came in 2002 now bring their children. Ruby Room opened a complete teen service menu in response, for young clients building self-care routines early.

What Changed After 2020

Leydon says clients have taken a markedly greater interest in energy care, intuitive development, and physical wellness since the pandemic — actively looking for ways to understand the deeper layers of who they are energetically, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Ruby Room has adapted its offerings to meet them there.
